Even though some say the Bible may have
been passed down verbally from person to person in story form from the
beginning, losing and gaining emphasis when told or translated and
retranslated, I believe it was eventually inscribed as the infallible word of
God, which is known to us as the Bible. I believe my God is the author of the
Bible. If my God is God, and He is, He is able to make a finished copy from the
various rough drafts of man. I believe the Bible is God's guide for mankind to
follow, as a roadmap, to make it through life. I believe the proof that the
Bible is God's Word lies in the hatred of it by evil men and the many
unsuccessful attempts by man to destroy it.
People can not create themselves from
nothing or create anything else from nothing as far as that goes, which is
proof that we were created. If we are created, then, there must be a creator.
It is my belief that God is the creator of the world, which makes Him a deity
or divine being who is supremely good; who knows all and can do all; who
surpasses all others and is eminent in the world and loves all human beings.
Mankind, or human beings are his creation and in the beginning of creation we
were created to be in fellowship with God. That is to say, we were created to
have a personal, or person-to-person, relationship with God. In the beginning,
that relationship was lost by the fall of Adam when he disobeyed God, but I
believe that God has provided a way to restore that fellowship with Him by
coming to earth in the form of a man and becoming a one time sacrifice for the
sin of the world. This sacrifice, Jesus Christ, will be atonement for the sin
of the world until the end of the world.
In
The Case for Jesus,
Lee Strobel attempts to "determine if there's credible evidence that Jesus of
Nazareth really is the Son of God." His interviews with biblical scholars such
as Bruce Metzger and others compose a case brief defending Jesus' divinity, and
urging readers to reach a verdict of their own. Check it out, and decide for
yourself.
I believe God's source of authority comes
from Him and there is no greater source more available than God. God is the
individual source, and the group source is the Godhead, or the Trinity, which
consists of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God is also
the source of authority for human beings who believe that God can be three in
one.
I believe that mankind has the need and it
is our nature to believe in and/or worship a higher being. This is evident
from the actions and activities of the most primitive people in the deepest
jungles of Africa or South America to the most intellectual thinkers of this
world. The god of primitive people, whether made of clay, stone, or wood is
what they worship, just as the materialistic world today worships the object
that is most important to them. The nature of society is to worship something
that can be seen and to reject that which can't be seen or that is unable to be explained
using the mind. It is evident that mankind needs to worship something. In his
book,
Reaching for the Invisible God,
Philip Yancy explores our longing for God, who God is, the Holy Spirit, our
faith, growth, and spiritual transformation. In his explorations, he
reassembles the difficult and perplexing events of life around an ability to
trust in a loving God.
I believe like this because just as I have
learned, what I believe depends on what I think of myself. I don't just think,
but I know that I have the nature to sin, to be selfish, proud, lewd or
lascivious, (gross and lustful) hateful, spiteful, and uncaring of other's
feelings, just to name a few. I can do these things without even trying to do
them because it is my nature. But, through the many years of trials and
experiences, both good and bad, I have learned that there is a better way to
live. That better way is what I hope in; a better life hereafter. Even if I
knew there is not a better life hereafter, I would not change my lifestyle now
for the lifestyle I had previously for anything in the world, because of what I
have learned. What I believe depends on what I think of myself and I think
enough of myself that I want people to know and remember Wayne Sexton as a
person of integrity; honest, faithful, loving others and caring for other's
feelings just as Jesus Christ cares for me. I believe that God is real and He
cares for mankind, just as the actor, George Burns said, in the movie,
Oh God!
when he said, "I (God) have given humans everything they need to succeed. I
have given you each other." We can care for each other as Jesus commanded us to
do, which "is" all we need.

help others and make this world a better place to live.
This is what I believe and will hope for
until I die. Then I will know if I was right in following my feelings, or
whether others were right. If I am wrong, I'll get what others get, the real
place known as Hell, but if I'm right they will not get what I get. Amen.
